Cocina La Salud (Video): Building a Community Kitchen for Fresno's Food Vendors
Five years after the murder of Fresno street vendor Lorenzo Perez sparked a citywide call to action, Cultiva La Salud has broken ground on Cocina La Salud, a community kitchen built to give Fresno's mobile food vendors a permitted, industrial space to prepare and store their food safely and legally.
This $5 million project is made possible by partners including the Vesper Society, the 11th Hour Project, and a $700,000 grant from the City of Fresno. F3 Local has also contributed programattic and equipment funding for the new kitchen project.
Cocina La Salud will include four individual kitchen spaces, office space for staff, and an educational area for the vendors who will use it, creating a real pathway for entrepreneurs to grow from a street cart to a thriving small business, without fear.
