The F3 Initiative is proud to congratulate Dr. Qiao-Hong Chen, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Fresno State, on the recent publication of her team’s groundbreaking research in the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (Vol. 305, March 5, 2026). The article, titled “Small-molecule modulators of the androgen receptor N-terminal domain: Advances in medicinal chemistry for prostate cancer”, highlights advances that could play a powerful role in future prostate cancer treatments, rooted right here in the Central Valley.
Dr. Chen’s research focuses on anti-prostate cancer drug discovery using native, drought- and salt-tolerant crops from California.
"We are discovering bioactive compounds from native plants in our central California, with exciting possibility of turning them into both cancer therapeutics and economic crops for our region," said Dr. Chen. "The biggest hope is we get pure compound, novel, which has anti prostate cancer properties. And in that case we could collaborate with a pharmaceutical company to bring this to a real world impact."
Working in collaboration with Fresno State's Department of Plant Science, her team screened 75 crop samples and found that about 20 showed potential in inhibiting prostate cancer cell growth.
This promising research was made possible in part through support from the F3 Initiative. F3 is proud to back forward-thinking projects like this one, which combines agricultural and medical innovation to create both regional and global solutions.
