UC Merced Researchers Transform Sunlight into Opportunity for Agriculture

Researchers at University of California, Merced are launching an exciting new project to develop light-tuning materials that could improve greenhouse efficiency for Central Valley growers. Led by Dr. Hrant Hratchian, Dr. Ryan Baxter, and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Ali Abou Taka, Ph.D., the team is designing innovative materials that convert ultraviolet light into wavelengths that better support plant growth while protecting greenhouse structures.
Supported by the F3 Initiative, this research highlights how interdisciplinary science can address real-world agricultural challenges, helping growers adapt to changing environmental conditions while advancing sustainable food production.
