On December 12, 2024, the 4th Annual Small Farm Tech Expo brought together farmers, innovators, and researchers at Kingsburg Historical Park to explore agricultural technologies tailored to small-scale operations. Hosted by the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) and funded by F3 Local, the event showcased practical, scalable solutions for farmers managing everything from 20-acre row crops to quarter-acre market gardens.
Attendees engaged with exhibitors like Renewables Inc., Sutton Ag, Farm-ng, and Fresno State's CENID Lab, who demonstrated cutting-edge tools, including electric two-wheel tractors and autonomous farming equipment. Workshops offered valuable insights, such as “Taller de Tecnología 101,” presented entirely in Spanish, which provided guidance on using mobile applications for farm management. Sessions on funding and business development further equipped farmers with resources to grow their operations sustainably.
A standout feature of the expo was the Small Farm Innovation Challenge, encouraging farmers to share their ideas for solving real-world challenges. The newly launched Small Farms Alliance to Develop Appropriate Technology (SF-ADAPT) also highlighted the collaborative approach to creating farmer-driven solutions. By connecting farmers directly with technology developers, the event emphasized the importance of co-creating tools to meet the needs of diverse agricultural operations.
The next Small Farm Tech Expo will take place in November 2025. Stay tuned to the CAFF website, www.CAFF.org, for updates and details about this annual event.
