In September, UC Merced hosted Justin Tooley, Director of the American Rescue Plan. His visit included a tour of the Experimental Smart Farm, where he was able to see firsthand the technologies that have been acquired through the Build Back Better Region Challenge Grant. These resources, made possible by the US Economic Development Agency’s support, are driving innovative research and creating new opportunities for students.
During his visit, Justin met with Inclusive Innovation researchers and F3 Innovate PhD candidates, who shared the progress we’ve made over the past two years. Graduate students presented their research on topics such as soil health and the use of computer science in agriculture, highlighting how agtech is addressing key challenges in the field. This visit provided the opportunity to showcase the real-world impact of the grant funding and our continued commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture.
